VGs slowly rolled out of bed this morning and headed out on the town. Our first stop was the Food Republic food court near People's Square. At this massive food court, you purchase a debit card with an initial deposit, then go around the dozens of different vendors and choose your desired plate (soup dumplings!) We are very quickly realizing that Chinese portions are ENORMOUS... and they're taking their toll. Thank goodness we're walking so much around this city!
After lunch we headed to the nearby Museum of Urban planning, a large, modern museum depicting the changes and growth of Shanghai in the past 150 years. The highlight of the museum is its massive model of the central part of the city. This spans a giant room and multiple levels and can also light up when the main lights are turned off to simulate what the city looks like at night. We toured the museum's other sections - rooms about the growth of transportation, shipping, and commerce in China and then headed back to our hostel. We're gearing up for a fun night at the French Concession district this evening.
We wish all of our families and friends the best! See you all soon!
