Grindelwald, Pfingstegg, and Interlaken

Of all Simon’s birthdays, #35 was definitely the best yet.

We woke up this morning after a comfortable night at our Interlaken Airbnb and the boys surprised Simon with a birthday card.  We then met Aunt Rennie and Uncle Hang Hang at the Interlaken West train station before walking across town to the Interlaken Ost station to catch the train to Grindelwald.

We had window seats on the train and enjoyed the changing landscape as we climbed through the mountains.

Once arriving in Grindelwald, we took a bus to the Pfingstegg station and then a cable car up to Pfingstegg.

There, all of us - muppets included - went down the toboggan run.  The boys had runs with both parents and repeatedly told us they were having so much fun and to speed up!   We obliged.  The toboggan run took us past countless cow pastures and through meadows filled with butterflies.

After tobogganing, the boys bounced for a while inside a giant inflatable cow.

Then, we met a real cow.

From there, we headed to the Fly Line - a scenic and pleasant zip line through the forest on the mountainside.  All of the adults had an absolute blast!

After the morning adventures, we had a lunch with a gorgeous view of the Grindelwald valley and Erika and Simon sampled Rosti while the boys had sausage and schnitzel.

Finally, we took the cable car back down from Pfingstegg.

However, our adventures weren’t close to done.  We took another bus to the Grindelwald Glacier Canyon, strapped the boys in their carriers on our backs, and trekked up through the canyon and caves to see the beautiful river rushing through the canyon and waterfalls.  The boys were great adventure buddies.

We then luckily and quickly caught the bus back to Grindelwald, the train to Interlaken Ost, and another train to Interlaken West - all at the last second and thanks to Uncle Hang Hang’s great navigation.

After some rest back at our Airbnb, we celebrated Simon’s birthday at a delicious Korean BBQ, where the boys tried everything and Hang Hang and Simon grilled their beef and pork at the table.

Then, we capped off the day with gelato — and on the way back, we saw a rainbow!

Pretty fantastic way to turn 35!!  Thanks, everyone!
