Camp Nou and Montjuic

On the eve of the Sant Joan holiday, we started our day with a visit to the historic Camp Nou, the home of the greatest football club in the world, FC Barcelona.  Although the stadium is being renovated, we were still able to visit the unique and immersive Museum and, importantly, the store.

We started at the museum, after Elena and Lorena helped get big admission discounts for the boys and our group. The museum is huge, technologically advanced, and interactive.  It traces the history of the club from its founding through many golden periods, difficult times, and up to the present day.  There are informative documentaries about Barça’s famed academy, La Masia, and a unique 360 degree video showing the atmosphere on game days and nights at the stadium.

Barça’s trophy rooms (yes, plural) are there, too, and they are, understandably, huge, housing its various women’s and men’s La Liga, Copa del Rey, Supercopa de España, Supercopa, Club World Cup, and Champions League and Cup Winners Cup trophies; and its legends’ Ballon d’Ors and Golden Boots.

Inspired by the museum, Simon ran off toward the store, followed by the rest of the group.  We got kits, a shirt, scarves, and a hat right from the source (boosted by Elena and Lorena again accidentally getting all of us another discount)!

(Note the large, new swag bag in Simon’s hand and hat on his head.)

We ended our stop at the Camp Nou with lunch (where, apparently, they must have run out of kids burgers because the boys’ burgers were bigger than anyone else’s meals)!  It was all delicious and we ate like champions - fitting when seated yards away from the pitch.

Next, we drove past the Olympic Park and the Olympic Stadium (where Barça currently plays during the Camp Nou renovations) to the Teleferic de Montjuïc - the Cable Car that took us up Montjuïc to get phenomenal views of Barcelona (particularly the Port, which we hadn’t seen much previously).

We briefly walked around at the summit of Montjuïc to see the castle, but then headed back to avoid over-exhausting the muppets.

Finally, back at Lorena’s aunt and uncle’s apartment, we took a dip in the pool, had dinner, and had a special treat - Coca - to celebrate Sant Joan while we listen to the fireworks.

Tomorrow we’re off to Girona!
