We took a high speed rail train to Cambridge and upon getting there, we journeyed from the station to the college areas. The city is very beautiful with a lot of neo-gothic architecture everywhere and a fairly narrow thoroughfare that leads all the way into the heart of Cambridge.
When we got into the center, our first stop was to go to the top of St. Mary's Church to get views of Cambridge from above.
We also saw Jon and Professor Kinney's alma mater, Clare College, and visited St. John's College, which looked like a giant Castle.
I must say that St. John's was my favorite. When we gathered together in the rear of the college to decide if we wanted to punt on the Cam, Jon began his lecture about the different prestige levels of the colleges and a loyal Clare College student interjected that "Kings is Shit!" Always trust the locals.
This is St. Johns:
Again... people go to school here... and they're fiercely proud of it.
After visiting various different schools, we went over to the river Cam and decided to try our hand at punting. Punting involves standing on the back of a long flat boat with a long metal pole and trying to push the boat by pushing the pole off the bottom of the river. It's really hard and really frightening keeping your balance but I'm proud to say that no one fell off of the HMS Every Little Bit. In fact, one of the professional punting guides managed to lose his punting pole and we engaged in a rescue mission to get the pole and then bring it back to him as he was stranded in the middle of the river.
I was the guinea pig for standing at the back and pushing our boat through the canal and then we took turns until my roommate Brandon hit his stride.
Finally, we ended our day walking past my favorite store ever for the last time.
Oh Betty, thou art so Sweaty.
Off for some World Cup Action!!! USA USA USA!!!!
